Apart from angling and visiting historic sites, recognition in some parts of Ireland of tourism potential for Family History Research. Waterford County Council for instance have released details on their website; http://www.waterfordcoco.ie about Family History Tourism and 'Family History Friendly B&B's'. A co-ordinated approach between the the councils tourism, library and archive departments that at last recognises another strand of popular tourism presently underway particularly aimed at British people researching their roots.
Judging from the numbers of hits on the Trip Advisor website from people around the world wanting to research their own Irish roots, it seems to me that there is an increasing need for genealogy reference information that is e-accessable. Whereas to fullfil this need, there is a pre-requisite within the present county system for overhauling the existing service arrangements and start by giving helpful genealogy source catalogue information over the internet and free access to records via the library/archive service, might go some way towards generating tourism interest that could be stimulated via the Cavan & Monaghan Associations worldwide. Is certainly worth trying and perhaps Joanne or John would like to comment on this?
