We had an interesting & highliy interactive Web2.0 Network Workshop today. We all are now twittering?
We all have joined the online texting culture and the celeb's to become twitter's...
What is it? Good question and probably the best place to start is this blog which gives a business introduction to Twitter:

If you are interested in twitter just follow a person who interests you and see what is happening ;) I found some nice contacts through twitter and also researched some new business opportunities. Because of people following you you will have new connections coming to you and if you are not interested you do not have to give a reply.
Have you tried it, are you already on it? Let us know. Love to follow you.

I have been using Twitter now for 2 weeks and still learning. I use it to post and receive messages to a network of contacts instead of sending e-mails or text messages. I also use Twitter to promote my blogs especially if I would like feedback on the blog. I use Twitter to watch and follow other colleagues in the tourism trade and it gives me an insight as what is happening and keeps me up to date with currents trends. I find it a more friendly way to keep in contact with friends and give a more human side to a message. I am still very new to tweeting and have a lot more to learn, it seems to be what all the bigger organisations are doing, they must find it of value to their business, so why not give it a go and see how it works for you. If you would like to tweet me on the following link :) http://twitter.com/Eonishgirl (http://www.twitter.com/Eonishgirl)

Like your "Miss Busy" and your profile photo on twitter is lovely.Geraldine just check your twitter link again, it did not work for me, unless twitter has a breakdown due to to much traffic.
Is anybody else on twitter please let us know so we can build another communication network through twitter and let's see how it works for us.
This year trying anything is worth the effort.

Once you are comfortable with Twitter you should start using TwitterMap.com or TwitterLocal.net; you will get access to all the happenings in any given area.
Also if you are posting links in your 'tweets' whether to your own site or an article, i recommend using www.BudUrl.com to shrink the size of the URL. The beauty of this site is that it also allows you to track how many people have clicked on the URL, enabling you to track what postings are popular and get peoples attention.

Well it took me a while to feel comfortable with the tweeting thing but I must say I think I like it better than facebook. It seems to be quicker and easier to follow and connect with others. And it is certainly quicker to down load on the dreaded dialup :(
I have found some interesting tweeters to follow including a 'handmade forum' which is interesting. So I will stick with it and see how it goes....

;)If you are interested to read about our day on "how to set up your own blog" please follow this link http://bearessentialsireland.wordpress.com/training/
We are going to run this day again in September and are taking names at the moment.
You can also establish new contacts with all the people who attended the day through this link. We also touched on micro-blogging and everyone signed up to twitter to try it out.

Hello everyone,
Got the twitter virus too! If I'm not mistaken how often the content of a page is updated has an influence over the traffic to that page. Twitter being a micro-blog you can bet the more often you post relevant tweets the easier you gonna attract followers or at least people looking at your status page on twitter. However it's not as easy as it seems.
The problem as always in those type of websites - blogs, social networks, etc. - is "what am I going to tweet now?". And because one cannot spend all his time behind a PC one need to use his time sensitively. The thing is there are tools around like ping.fm that allow you to update all your social network at once. Such tools can be valuable provided you don't have to provide your user ids and passwords (a third party website with obscure intentions could then easily change your password for instance).
In my case I've connected my account to quovadislive.com to my twitter one so everytime I log an event in quovadislive.com my status on twitter is immediately updated with that event and a link to the page containing that event in quovadislive.com which facilitates my profile data. And best of all is I didn't have to provide my twitter user id and my twitter password for it! I just thought that information might be useful to you considering the topic. Might be some of you are already doing the same. I don't know.
That's it!

yes i twitt but it is not alowed more then 2000 why?
Twitter (http://twitter.com/Talktourism) has recently re-branded its homepage (http://twitter.com/), with a feel and look more akin to the traditional search engines; yahoo, google & now bing.
This transformation will have a major impact on the 'Tourism Search' for all those looking for and making last minute holiday bookings. For those who are on 'twitter' you are on the right road and ahead of the posse and its not just me that saying this; check out this blog (http://dennisschaal.blogspot.com/2009/07/twitters-travel-search-start-of.html) which clarifies the importance of keeping fresh update offers available and letting the World know via 'twitter'. :D
IF YOUR THINKING About getting Started on Twitter then: All of the Talktourism members that contributed to this discussion are now on 'twitter' and no better place to start is to check their accounts and follow them. Like everything else on the web there is excellent online support once you start to search for help! To get started this is 'twitters' own easy step by step guide (http://help.twitter.com/portal) which has a four minute video to bring you through the basic's and loads of hints & tips. I also just came across another useful blog today which is called the 'Top 7 mistakes new Twitter users make' (http://ow.ly/iBEO) Now you have no excuse!
Tweet me soon: http://twitter.com/Talktourism
Give it a go and come back here and let us know how you get on!

Thanks for those Twitter Guides John. They're both quite interesting. If I may, I'd like to contribute with this other one whose title says it all "Top 7 Twitter Commands Everyone Should Know (http://cantondog.com/128/top-7-twitter-commands-everyone-should-know/)".
http://cantondog.com/128/top-7-twitter-commands-everyone-should-know/
Since one is taking time to update his/her status on Twitter, he/she'd rather make the max. out of his/her tweets. And this can be as simple as preceding each keyword (such as B7B name, city, country) with a # symbol.
Hope it helps! And BTW I'm on Twitter too ;-)

Hi,
I have been using Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/GTTConsultancy)for about 6 months and have found it very useful for making contacts and updating my knowledge. What do you think are the benefits of Twitter? Can you attribute enquiries/bookings to your Twitter profile? Do you know of tourism businesses that are effectively using Twitter to sell rooms or products?
What do you think?

The problem is if one of those you are following are microblogging every single minute of their life and you receive an avalanche of text messages from that person. Your text messaging bill could shoot up

Hi,
I think using twitter is a great tool for getting information out to your followers, just a word of warning to be careful in what exactly you tweet, for you never know who will retweet it and where it might lead. It is probably best that one person in the business looks after the twitter account....remember when you tweet it is on the net straight away!

Another vote for Twitter here! Its a great way of letting your followers know what is happening. Also Twitpics are a great way of sharing images instantly. Love the concept of sending from my mobile straight to the stream!!

It definitely helps. I'm pretty active there.
Last year I got 2 bookings from twitter for my Italy villa.
2 bookings are not much bit to tweet doesn't costs me anything and I enjoy it.
So, yes - I recommend it.

i love twitter. took ages to join coz i thought it wasn't for me but now i have, it's great.
it hasn't yielded any bookings thus far (though i would like to think that if one of those following me were coming to donegal, they would consider coming to daisy cottage mainly because they 'know' me through tweeting with me).
but i didn't join simply to try and get bookings. i joined actually because someone kept nagging me to join because they enjoyed it so much and knew i would too when i got on to it. and you do learn a lot. you interact with people from many countries and all walks of life and hear about their country and life and you in turn maybe interest people in our country.
i would advise anyone thinking of joining just to get business, certainly for those in the holiday industry, to forget it. i, and i'm sure many millions more, hate someone/some company who just tweets about their company and offers. why on earth would that interest anyone. you need to interact with people and not just use the exposure to benefit yourself.
join it, it's fun and interesting (and addictive!).
